Rauw Alejandro
Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. The single a mix of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring interest in reggaeton but also drew interest to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish predominantly, as well as four in 2016. In the midst of Despacito's fame in 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks that made the top 100. Then in 2020 there were 41. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages to Despacito (2017) popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton artists, including Drake along with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna together with Maluma for Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers have criticized the shift to mainstream music in 2020. A new group, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the evolution and development of reggaeton. It often blended elements from electronic dance music as well as other forms.
